MSc UZH ETH QF students are free to combine studies and work. However, be aware that

• the courses are spread all over the day and week, thus this requires some flexibility from the student.
• the courses take place onsite, some being offered also online.
• the provisions of the program regulations remain unaffected by any job commitments. After five years the ECTS credit points earned first start to expire.

We encourage our students to make internships and inform them regularly by email  about opportunities offered by the finance industry.

The internship is not compulsory for the program. This might make it more difficult for third country students to get a work permit.

According to the provisions of the Office for Economy and Labour (Amt für Wirtschaft und Arbeit, AWA) students from third (non-EU) countries may pursue a part-time job or an internship for a maximum of 15 hours per week, at the earliest six months after starting their educational course. For this purpose AWA requires a confirmation from the University that the duration of the candidate’s studies will not be affected and the graduation date not delayed due to the part-time job.

A corresponding confirmation can be requested (by e-mail) from the Dean’s Office if the following conditions are met:

You have completed at least 20 ECTS credit points per semester in the course of the previous semesters and plan to take the same workload also while working on a part-time basis. The Dean’s Office will process your request by verifying your current module booking overview.

If you do not meet these conditions, it is not possible to receive the requested confirmation from the University.
